Illustrations & Commissions

Midsummer's Night, Watercolor Batik on Kinwashi Rice Paper

I have been painting with the watercolor batik method on rice paper for ten years. I would like to illustrate children’s books using this technique. I created this website in order to showcase my artwork, my portfolio. If you would like to start a conversation with me about illustration, please click here.

I am now selling paintings by commission only. If you would like to start a conversation about a painting you would like for me to create especially for you, please click here.

The Batik Technique

That’s Amore, Watercolor Batik on Kinwashi Rice Paper

A Watercolor Batik is made with layers of melted wax and watercolor paint on rice paper. The wax resists the paint. The artist draws, splatters or paints with the the clear, hot wax, and then alternates with paint applications. When a Batik is finished, all the wax is removed from the painting using an iron and newspaper.

Each painting is as individual as your fingerprint, and it is so much fun to splash and splatter paint and wax.
